Presentation by Father Dr. Tomasz Czapiewski, art historian
Tomasz Czapiewski, born in Tczew, is a priest and theologian, art historian, and poet-philosopher. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Major Seminary in Pelplin, affiliated with the Lateran University in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1975 in his hometown and began specialized studies in art history at the then ATK (now UKSW) in Warsaw, culminating in a doctorate in humanities. Since 1992, he has been associated with the Archdiocese of Gdańsk. He lectures in art history, iconography, and Christian symbolism; he also taught homiletics for nearly 30 years. He is the author of the following monographs:
The Altar of St. Barbara from Żarnowiec, Problems of Content and Form, and Salvador Dali as a Religious Painter. He also writes essays and publishes articles.
Since his youth, he has been writing poetry, published first in journals and anthologies, and later in successive volumes: Sieving Time, Jacob's Ladder (with a German translation – Die Jakobsleiter), Winds of the Spirit, Faces, Rhythm of the Heart, Resurrection of the Hours, Tomorrow, and Shrouds. A Polish-German anthology of his poetry has also been published, titled Love Letters – Liebesbriefe.
Perspectives is the latest volume, the title of which suggests different perspectives on reality and the diverse situations people find themselves in. At the same time, it is a turn to the future, which – depending on one's views – may be painted in many colors and with varying degrees of clarity.
